Frequently asked questions

How do new clients get started?

Every new household starts with a free in-home setup visit. That is where Bark & Blaze meets your dog, reviews access, captures routine and emergency details, and gets recurring care ready before the first paid visit begins.

Which visit type should I choose?

Choose After-Hours Dog Visit if you need coverage before dawn, after dark, or on a rotating schedule. Choose Daytime Dog Visit if you need dependable recurring coverage during standard daytime hours. If you are unsure, book the free setup visit and Bark & Blaze can confirm the right fit in person.

What areas and hours do you cover?

Bark & Blaze serves Herndon, Reston, Ashburn & Sterling, VA. After-hours coverage runs 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM Thursday through Saturday, and 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM Sunday through Wednesday. The route stays intentionally tight so arrival windows stay realistic.

What happens during the free setup visit?

The setup visit covers home access, keys or lockboxes, alarms, routine, feeding, meds, gear, emergency contacts, and the recurring visit plan. The goal is to make the first paid visit about your dog, not intake questions at the door.

When can recurring visits start after the setup visit?

Once the setup visit is complete and the fit is confirmed, recurring visits can start as soon as schedule availability allows. If you already know which visit type you want, the setup visit is where Bark & Blaze finalizes timing and access around that plan.

Who will be coming into my home?

Bark & Blaze is owner-operated by Teferi "Blaze" Tesfaye. The business is built around direct accountability, a tight local route, and repeatable in-home standards rather than a rotating roster of unfamiliar walkers.

What happens if Blaze is delayed or unavailable?

Bark & Blaze keeps recurring capacity intentionally limited because owner-operated care depends on a realistic route. If illness, unsafe roads, an access issue, or an emergency affects a scheduled visit, Bark & Blaze contacts the client as early as possible with the realistic next option. Backup coverage is not silently substituted; any backup arrangement would need to be approved in advance.

How does home access work?

Home entry, restricted areas, alarms, lockup instructions, and emergency contacts are reviewed during the setup visit before recurring care begins. Nothing important is left to guesswork on the first paid visit.

What happens if weather is unsafe?

If heat, cold, storms, air quality, or surface conditions make the outdoor plan unsafe, the visit shifts to indoor relief and enrichment instead of forcing the wrong walk. Safety comes first, even when the schedule is tight.

What do the visit updates include?

Each visit ends with a written update covering what happened with your dog, what was handled in the home, any notable behavior or weather adjustments, and how the visit ended. It is meant to be useful, not generic.

What are the rates and extra fees?

After-Hours Dog Visits start at $45 for 30 minutes. Daytime Dog Visits start at $35 for 30 minutes. Base rates include up to 2 dogs. A third dog adds $15. Same-day or short-notice bookings add $5. Simple oral or topical medications are included. Injections and sub-q fluids are not offered.

How do cancellations, rescheduling, and extra-visit requests work?

Rates and cancellation windows are shown at booking. Same-day cancellations may be charged in full, and 24-hour notice is expected for refund-eligible cancellations or free rescheduling. Added visits, vacation coverage, and extended outing requests are handled case by case for active recurring clients.
